GLOW FROM THE INSIDE OUT
You know those people who have glowing skin? The ones who look like are living in a constant golden hour? They always seem so confident and they literally glow from the inside out. And while we can appreciate their radiating glow, more importantly, we want to know… what are they doing and how can we get our skin to glow like that?
Keep reading and we’ll let you in on the simple secret to having the best skin of your life.
HOW TO GET THE BEST SKIN OF YOUR LIFE
Did you know that your skin is the largest organ in your body? That’s right! Your skin is an organ! And it is an important one! It is your body's first line of defense in a world full of toxins, radiation from the sun, and other substances in the air. Knowing this here are some simple ways to give your skin some appreciation and TLC for doing such a great job of protecting your body.
1. Manage Stress Levels
Feel like you are constantly getting this advice? Yeah. It’s because stress plays such a big part in our health! Some stress is ok and actually good for you, like the stress you put your body in when you workout. The stress you experience from lack of sleep, being over-caffeinated, and overworking? Not so good. Stress causes a chemical response in your body that makes skin more sensitive and reactive. Lowering our stress levels can greatly help our gut and complexion, as chronic stress can damage the skin’s protective antimicrobial barrier, alter our gut microflora, contribute to systemic inflammation and accelerate the breakdown of collagen. This is important because studies have proven that the health of our gut has a direct effect on our complexion. So if our gut is inflamed because of issues like hormonal imbalances, emotional stress, and excess sugar intake, our skin responds in with breakouts, eczema, sensitivity, and more.
Stress-Busting Practices:
Take breaks - Get some fresh air, walk outside ( with sunscreen on of course!)
Drink plenty of water.
Meditation.
Lavender - Dried lavender, essential oils, lotion, tea. Lavender is known for its calming properties.
Quality SLEEP - From power naps to your full 8 hours of sleep.
2. Find a manageable skincare routine that works for YOU
“Hey, guys! So everyone has been asking about my skincare routine…” Now and days, almost everyone on social media is sharing the skincare routine that gives them their glowy complexion. This is great because it gives us an idea of what’s out there in terms of skincare, but ultimately you have to figure out what works best for you and your unique skin. Not everyone can afford spa facials, chemical peels, and “top of the line” moisturizers, but if possible budgeting for quality skincare products is an investment for your health.
That being said, here are some budget-friendly, natural skincare tips.
DIY Oatmeal Face mask:
Not just great for breakfast or overnight oats! Oatmeal contains anti-inflammatory compounds that help soothe the skin. You can use any kind of plain oatmeal for this mask. Simply cook a serving of oatmeal, and let cool. Once cooled apply to your face and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with cool water.
Optional: You can add honey or even plain yogurt to your mixture!
Ice Facials:
Ice is Queen! Ever wake up some mornings with exaggerated eye puffiness? Or do you have redness? Breakouts? Ice is your new bff.
How to use: Cleanse your face and apply your favorite moisturizer. Grab an ice cube ( if you have a face roller you can put that in the fridge the night before and use it in the morning) and gently roll it over your face.
*If you want to get even fancier you can freeze rose water, green tea ice, or even aloe vera! Gently rub those cubes over your face and neck and enjoy your at-home luxury.*
3. The best skin of your life is the skin you already have!
With photoshop and filters galore, it can be easy to get frustrated with your skin. Photoshop can make someone look unreal without a scar, pimple, or fine line in sight. But that’s just it. These people look unreal because it’s not real! Most people will admit that is NOT their skin.
We have put so much value ( and money) into achieving “perfect” skin. But just like our bodies come in different shapes, sizes and colors… our complexion has its own unique beauty as well.
It’s totally okay to want that healthy glow! Healthy-looking skin can reflect our level of internal health, for sure. But know that almost everyone gets pimples, acne, scars, and has some pigmentation. And it is ok! Instead of beating ourselves up for how our skin looks, what if we look inward and use these as signs and signals. Cheek acne? Maybe that means there is something going on with our digestive system. Laugh lines? Must mean that you have so much good in your life, you are constantly smiling!
