Thai Basil Turkey
Ground turkey, Thai basil, chilies, garlic, and shallots come together in a fast skillet dinner inspired by Thai basil stir-fry.
Makes: 2 servings
Ingredients
- 1–2 tablespoons coconut or avocado oil
- 2 Thai bird chilies, thinly sliced on a bias
- 2–3 shallots, thinly sliced
- 5 cloves garlic, sliced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 1 lb ground turkey or chicken
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce or coconut aminos
- ½–1 tablespoon fish sauce, to taste
- ⅓ cup water
- 2 bunches Thai basil leaves
Directions
- Heat the oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chilies, shallots, garlic, and ginger; stir-fry for about 1 minute, until fragrant.
- Add the ground turkey and break it into small pieces with a wooden spoon. Stir-fry for about 3 minutes.
- Add the sugar, soy sauce or coconut aminos, and fish sauce. Stir-fry for 2–3 minutes, then add the water to loosen the browned bits. Cook until the turkey is no longer pink and the sauce lightly coats it.
- Check that the ground poultry reaches 165°F, then add the basil leaves and toss just until wilted. Serve over hot rice with vegetables, if you like.
